Betsy Devos Philanthropic And Education Passion

The current eleventh Secretary of the Education in the United States Elisabeth Dee DeVos was born on January 8th in 1958. For decades, she has been overly enthusiastic and passionate about education and giving back to the community. Betsy DeVos exhibits commitment and determination to support schools and all things school related.She carries an extensive background in the work she has done as a businesswoman, politician and a philanthropist. Betsy grew up in Holland and went to Holland Christian High School. She later graduated in Grand Rapids, Michigan from Calvin College with a bachelor of arts in business economics. Betsy portrayed her passion for politics from early college years where she was actively involved in campus politics.

 

Betsy DeVos formerly run the Windquest Group as the chairman. The Windquest Group, a private firm, specializes in investments and management and is based in Michigan. She and husband Dick DeVos are also significant investors and are also on the board of directors of Neurocore. Neurocore runs brain performance centers that offer therapy for brain disorders like autism, attention deficit disorder, and depression. Together with her husband, she was also the producer of Scandalous; The Life and Trials of Aimee Semple McPherson stage play.

 

Betsy who is a member of the Republican has actively participated in Michigan Politics since 1982. In Michigan Republican Party, she served as chairwoman for four years. Betsy makes generous political donations and fundraisings. The most documented fundraising being the fundraising she hosted for President George W. Bush reelection campaign which she hosted at her home. The fundraising held in October 2008. During the previously held elections, Betsy donated to Carly Fiorina and Jeb Bush and later supported Marco Rubio. DeVos and family have helped and given to political activities for decades now. They have funded legislative committees and candidates with over $17million from 1989 to date.

 

Betsy DeVos philanthropic spirit is one to reckon with, she stays actively involved in the community development and is continually driving change. Betsy previously chaired the Philanthropy Roundtable and The American Federation for Children. She was also a member of several local and national boards including the DeVos Institution for Arts, American Enterprise Institute, Foundation for excellence in Education and ArtPrize. She supports the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital that runs a Pediatric Oncology Program and other children programs.

 

Art and design have been among the things that Betsy DeVos takes a significant interest. She and her husband funded various arts-related institutions, and over the years she has actively been involved in critical art-based activities and events. Betsy is married to Philanthropist and entrepreneurial husband, Dick DeVos. The couple has four children that are equally actively involved in the family’s business. The couple is grandparents to five children.
