Jim and the fine folks at Highland Capital Management are up to it again. They are granting a $1 million dollar grant to challenge other philanthropic forces to match or raise them to benefit The Family Place. The Family Place is the hub in Dallas for supporting victims of domestic violence and family dysfunctional violence. During their Legacy fund raising event some $2.8 million dollars are targeted to be raised.
Families in need in Dallas will be very blessed as the announcement was made by James Dondero, CEO and President of Highland Capital Management, at The Family Place’s special luncheon called the Trailblazer Awards. This was number twenty one and took place at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas. This grant will match 50 percent of all other donations that are raised until those donations tally $ 1 million. The fund raising will go on until April 4, 2017.
Since the luncheon announcement, donations have been pouring in as The Family Place has now some $200,000 collected in the coffers of the Legacy Campaign. Highland Capital has matched this donation with their promised $100,000. Thanks to the Highland Capital gang, of the goal of 16.8 million dollars that The Family Place has set, it appears will soon reach that target.
Not only is James Dondero working with families in need in Dallas, but he is very actively engaged in shoring up support for the men in blue. He is working directly with Mayor Rawlings and the Dallas Police Chief David Brown to find solutions for the violent threats that are facing the lives of the men and women in blue who protect the citizens of Dallas and to work with the community to heal.
Dondero finds solace in giving to those who are vulnerable in times that try men and women’s souls. He feels that the philanthropic support given by The Family Place is impressive. He said of his colleagues at Highland, “We are proud to invest alongside many of the most generous.” Jim is finding that the effort that The Family Place makes to offer lifesaving services and shelter to victims of domestic and family disturbances deserves recognition and support.
